The new UI Automation component that came with the iOS 4 SDK allows you to exercise your application, without the need to awkwardly inject additional code into it. It’s also the only reasonable way to automatically test your app’s lifecycle behaviour (for example, when running in the background).

This is an exciting step forward towards building robust apps for iPhone and iPad. Vikram and Sebastián would love to share what they’ve learnt about UI testing iOS apps, and in general about the advantages and challenges of continuous testing of mobile applications.

Vikram Kriplaney and Sebastián Vieira are creators of the best rated free app in the Swiss App Store: the Swiss Phone Book from local.ch. They are also winners of the DevDay for iPhone application challenge, with their Air Frame photo viewer app.
